16.12.24-20.12.24 – This week’s blog is by Ella and Jaxson!

I got an award for the most improved player at my football club! – Millie

We were using the building blocks to make things during maths. We were making castles. – Ella

We were doing a sorting activity about Fairtrade. We watched a video first then sorted it into the order it was in. – Ella













We were building a sleigh because Santa’s sleigh broke down. – Jaxson
We were in groups and we used different materials outside to make it. It was very windy so things kept getting knocked over but my group’s was strong so it was OK. – Ella























We took part in ‘Leg it to Lapland’. This is when you record your miles and exercise for a week so we can get as close as we can to Lapland. We came 4th in Dumfries and Galloway! – Ella
Briony came to see us on her bike which was also a sleigh! – Jaxson



We made a story called ‘Santa and the Christmas Pudding’. We all wrote the story together but we all got a page each to write. Something funny that happened was the Christmas pudding appeared on the roof. – Ella & Jaxson


We made Santa’s Village in groups. In my group we made a candy cane shop, a boat shop, a Christmas Tree and a toy shop. – Ella
My group had a Lego shop, a Christmas Tree, Santa’s Workshop and stables. – Jaxson





We went to see Paddington in Peru at the cinema. There was a big purple tarantula in it! I was scared of it and thought it was going to jump out at me from the wall behind me! – Ella

9.12.24-13.12.24 – This week’s blog is by Jenny and Rosie!

Last week’s school value was honesty and Millie won it!
Jackson got Pupil of the Week!
Mr Peacock came in and spoke to us about Christmas. He spoke to us about the Nativity and brought a little angel. He also brought in some Christmas cards with Mary, Joseph and Jesus on them. – Jenny




I made a Christmas Wreath out of home made pom-poms. I made it at home. – Jesse
We played some games of boccia. You roll the ball and try to get it as close as you can to the white ball. We were put in teams for it. – Rosie
I enjoy playing boccia. – Jenny





The P5-7’s worked more on Lego Spike. We were finishing off our Ferris Wheels and we used the computers to make them spin. We also added a song when it spun around. We could also add decorations to it. – Jenny







We got split into 3 groups. One group was on the iPads or big board doing Purple Mash Christmas activities. The other group were building a tower for Mr Claus and Mrs Claus. The last group were making Christmas cards. I liked making the Christmas cards, I made mine for my Grandad and Granny! – Rosie























The P5-7’s had an CD secondary art teacher come in and we made gingerbread men. We cut out some card and made a jumper and a hat for it with a template. We used different colours and shapes. – Jenny









We had our Christmas lunch at Lochrutton. My favourite part was the sausages! We then went to the Village Hall for a show practice. – Jenny
My favourite was the chocolate pudding! – Rosie






We made some Fairtrade posters. We had to pick a Fairtrade product and make a poster about it and say why it would be better to buy that instead of normal products. – Jenny


We made robins. We used paper to make them and we put snow around them with paint. I added eyelashes to mine! – Rosie
Shawhead took a team for the indoor curling competition at Dalbeattie Learning Campus. There were 16 teams and we got split into 4 groups of 4 and played each other. We got through the group round and into the semi finals but we lost and got 4th place! We played well together as a team! – Jackson

2.12.24-6.12.24 – This week’s blog is by Jesse and Alexander!
We wanted to make you aware that our school now have a working/active defibrillator in the school – which is absolutely fantastic!
It was donated by the following…
On behalf of Wee Emma’s Campaign, which has been organised and led by Emma Currie, we would like to donate to your Primary school a free Zoll AED Plus Fully Automatic Defibrillator (AED). These AED devices will be supplied at no cost to the school and are dedicated to the memory of Emma Ross who suffered a cardiac arrest at Heathhall Primary School in 2014.
These devices will include:
- A portable Zoll AED Plus Fully Automatic Defibrillator which includes batteries and pads:
- A prep kit, which should be stored near the AED device which includes scissors, razor, wipes etc.
Together with Wee Emma’s Campaign, the DH9 Foundation have come together to help supply all schools with these devices – amazing.
We would like to say a huge thanks to Emma and The dh9 foundation! Thank you so much!

We got to decorate the school and we put up the Christmas Tree! The star kept going wonky but we managed to get it pretty straight in the end! – Jesse




We got some new toys this week – a doll’s house and a glow board that you can trace pictures on. Jaxson built the doll’s house! I was playing with the castle and there was one to build and one that was already made up. – Alexander











For ‘Leg it to Lapland’ we have been trying to do more exercise. We went a lap around the playground and we could run, jog or walk. I almost ran a mile! – Jesse
When you got back to the start you collected a cube so we could see how many laps we had done. I went very fast! – Alexander












We were playing a game where we had to join the sums together and see how many we could get. – Alexander


We had a Fairtrade Coffee Morning. We sold a bunch of Fairtrade things. I got a little wooden elephant. People also baked lots of food for everyone to eat! The Parent Council were doing a Tombola, I won some chocolate! – Jesse
I got lots of chocolate, even a penguin chocolate! There were also lots of little children that came so we had a big play with them in the yellow class which was fun! – Alexander
For Fairtrade items we sold £193.15 worth of products. For donations to the school we got £98.60! The Parent Council stalls raised £157.50.


























25.11.24-29.11.24 – This week’s blog is by Millie and Ruairi!

I made a Christmas Bauble out of wool. I crocheted it at home! – Jesse

Our new topic is Fairtrade. We worked in pairs and got a different type of Fairtrade product that is made in different countries. Ruairi and I got sugar. The older person filled out a sheet of information on the product. – Millie
The younger person drew a picture of the product. I first started with drawing some sugar and then I drew a pot around it. – Ruairi








The P4-7’s had Ross McKenzie come in to speak about his book, ‘The Elsewhere Emporium’. He spoke about his book, then we drew pictures of whatever we wanted from our imagination. He also read some of his book to us. – Millie







We went a walk around the village and handed out leaflets for our Fairtrade Coffee Morning next Wednesday! – Millie

In French, we were doing numbers. The older children made some dominoes and made sure each question had an answer. When we were done we made it into a square. – Millie
The younger children were spinning the wheel and whatever number it landed on in French you had to cross it off if you had it on your board. – Ruairi






Jesse and I were doing Fairtrade posters and we had to make it eye catching and have good information on it, we did this in the yellow class. – Millie
The yellow class has been moved around and I love it! My favourite toy was the pickup monster truck! I was playing with Alexander, Bobby and Kobi! – Ruairi






18.11.24-22.11.24 – This week’s blog is by Lola and Bessie!

For Children in Need we were allowed to come dressed in pyjamas and bring a donation. We raised £45.28! We did some activities for Pudsey. We started with a hunt around the playground for 10 different Pudsey’s! We then designed a bandana for Pudsey because he got bored of the spots! – Lola
We played pin the spots on Pudsey’s bandana! We were also trying to find Pudsey on the board hidden in bananas! – Bessie






















In maths we have had the K’Nex out. I have built a wand. – Bessie
Jesse, Millie, Asa and I all made a ladder and it was the height of the yellow classroom! The other thing I have made is something that can spin round! – Lola











We were using pegs to do our number bonds to 11. We worked out what 2 numbers make 11. – Zamari
We have been counting and adding within 10! We were counting pumpkins! – Bessie


For shape, we were cutting out nets of shapes but they were half nets. So you had to find the other half to match the net then stick them together with cellotape. We then had to label them. This was very hard! – Lola
We were learning about 3D shapes. We had to colour our different shapes in. We then built some towers with the 3D shapes! – Bessie













The pre schoolers came over and we went outside to find the 7 different colours of the rainbow! We used the iPads to take the photos so we could get better at photography! My group was me, Bessie and Frankie. After that we went inside and showed the other groups the photos and then put them on a PowerPoint! – Lola
When the older children were making the PowerPoint, we were getting to play next door with the pre schoolers. I played doctors and also drew a picture. – Bessie















11.11.24-15.11.24 – This week’s blog is by Jaxson and Zamari!
This week’s School Value Award was for honesty and Rosie won it! Kobi got pupil of the week!



For Remembrance Day we had a 2 minute silence to think about all the soldiers that passed away. We made poppies with red, black and green paper and drew around our hands to make them. – Jaxson
We also made soldiers in different positions standing above the board. – Zamari
The older children wrote some poems.
In maths we were counting and adding. We were counting the holes and circles and adding them together. – Zamari


This week in indoor curling we were rolling the stone under a chair to get it in to the middle target. It was easy but also hard! – Jaxson & Zamari








We went to the woods and made dens. We love going to the woods! – Jaxson & Zamari
My group got wood and sprinkled it over our den for decoration. – Zamari
My group got medium sticks to put on our den and then put leaves on top of it for camouflage. – Jaxson












4.11.24-8.11.24 – This week’s blog is by Jenny and Zara!
We got split up into 2 groups and then into 2 teams to do some indoor curling. We played some matches and seen who could get the closest to the middle. – Jenny & Zara








During maths we have been playing with the Polydron. We have been using them to make different shapes. I made a pyramid! – Jenny
I made a lake with some trees! – Zara








The P5-7’s had an ICT teacher come in. We were using Lego Spike which is Lego that you can pug into the laptop and it can make your building do different things. This week we made a Ferris wheel that could spin different ways. We also got to make little people to put on the Ferris wheel. – Jenny







The next day the P5-7’s had an art teacher come in. We made poppy fields. We used different techniques to make the picture. For the flowers we used a thin brush to paint them carefully with detail. For the grass we used different shades of green and used long brush strokes. I think they look nice! – Jenny





People have been using the Kapla to build some houses and towers! Devyn even added some toy cars to her one! – Zara





We made firework pictures. We used black paper, and then painted white lines in the shape of a star. After that we picked different colours to put on top of the white. We then got the end of our thin paint brush with white paint and dabbed it on to the picture to make sparks. I think they look lovely and bright! – Jenny & Zara





Here is us doing some stretches in gymnastics. We rolled our head up, down, to the side and then to the other side. We did a straddle position and stretched our arm over our head. We then did a star stretch, a dish shape, an arch shape, a front support and a back support. My favourite is the straddle because I get to lie down and touch my toes. – Zara


28.10.24-1.11.24 – This week’s blog is by Asa and Bobby!

On the first day back the P4-7’s went curling at Dumfries Ice Bowl. We started by doing a warm up and then we got onto the ice. We started by having 2 curling stones and pushing off mini steps. We then went down to having an arrow and 1 stone. We then played a game where we pushed a stone through a gate and had to hit red and white sticks. At the end we played a match. It was great fun! – Asa

















We made some bats for Halloween. We made them out of black paper and coloured tissue paper. We then put them on the windows. – Bobby


On Tuesday we split into 3 groups and did 3 different activities. One group was picking the pumpkins we have been growing in our garden with the help of Mrs Tennant and Mrs Ryman. We also picked onions, brussel sprouts and tidied up the weeds. The second group was inside carving some pumpkins. First we drew our designs, then we picked out some ideas from the pictures and drew them onto the pumpkin. We then took all of the stuff out from the inside and then carved it. – Asa
The last group was outside, we did a Halloween picture hunt where we looked around the playground for Halloween characters and when we found them we ticked them off. The ghost was hidden in the toy kitchen! – Bobby




























We made pumpkins out of oil pastels. First we went over our lines with very light pencil then over those lines we used a black crayon. Then we used orange, yellow and red colours in sections on the pumpkin and smudged them together. We put them on our display. – Asa
We have started doing gymnastics on a Thursday. First we did some stretching and I definitely hurt my legs! Then we played a game with our different stretch positions, I wasn’t great at it! – Asa
We then used the spring board to do different type of jumps. On the mats we did different rolls and I also did a bridge! I was happy with myself! – Bobby























Me and Devyn made Play-doh zombies! We used lots of different colours and we tried to make them scary! – Bessie






This is everyone dressed up in their costumes for Halloween! I think everyone looked great and there were a lot of skeletons! – Asa




7.10.24-11.10.24 – This week’s blog is by Jackson and Bessie!

Everyone has been using Kapla to make towers and buildings during maths. Asa and Lola made a pig! I love building things! – Bessie



















The P7’s went to Operation Safety which is teaching P7’s how to stay safe all the time. We took part in water safety, fire safety, police safety/online safety, ambulance safety, electricity safety and youth work. My favourite one was police safety as we got to make a Tik Tok. We made a Tik Tok about staying safe online. After making it, the police man said that wearing school uniform iin the video is not a good thing to do because whoever watches it can find out where you go to school and where you live. I learned something from each safety demonstration – especially electricity! – Jackson









We made medals because Wilbur the pig won a medal at the fair. We then did a pop quiz in teams about Charlotte’s Web and got stickers put on them depending on what place we came. My team came second! – Bessie









We went to the park in the afternoon as it was back open after being closed for so long! My favourite thing there was the swing as I went super high and Asa and Lola started playing badminton with me as the shuttlecock, whilst I was on the swing! – Jackson
It was raining but it didn’t stop the fun! My favourite thing was the climbing wall! – Bessie




























This term Matthew came in to do Living Life to the Full with the P5-7’s. We took part in these sessions to understand how to cope with emotions. We played stop the bus and we also got to play with stress toys to help us concentrate. I enjoyed this and it was great fun! – Jackson

30.9.24-4.10.24 – This week’s blog is by Ella and Devyn!

We finished our spider webs and we also made spiders out of pipe cleaners which were all different colours to go on the web. – Ella
My spider web had lots of colours and it looked crazy! – Devyn












We made trucks out of the loose parts in the playground. My group made a very long truck! – Devyn
We made the trucks because it was like when Wilbur went to the fair on the back of a truck in his crate. I made a pig nose as I was Wilbur in the back of my group’s truck. – Ella
















Kobi and I were playing a game where you rolled a dice and sounded out the word, we then put our counters on the word when we got them right. – Bessie
We went to a hockey festival as a partnership team. There were 5 teams altogether. We tried our best and we all got a certificate. – Ella






The P5-7’s went to The Bridge to take part in STEM activities. We got a mini bus there that Mr T drove and me and Lola sat in the front. We made paper aeroplanes where we shot them off of a launcher to make them fly. We then made a bridge out of tape and paper. My group’s bridge could hold 3 Play-Doh tubs and 2 Play-Doh cars – our bridge won! After that we made 3D shapes out of paper and then put a jug on top of them and put water in the jug to see which shape was strongest and wouldn’t collapse. The shapes were a cylinder, a triangular prism and a rectangular prism. Our team won again! I loved this day out! – Ella
























When the older children were away we had the ukuleles out and we were making our own music. We split into groups and my group got the sound of the rain forest. We found very good instruments to make the sound.
We also had a practise at singing ‘Flying High, Flying Free’ together. – Devyn






We had an open afternoon where our families came in to see what we’ve been doing at school. – Ella
I showed my mum all the musical instruments at school. – Devyn









We worked in pairs to make a PowerPoint about France. We did this to learn more information about France. I learned there are over 1600 types of cheese in France. – Ella
I worked with Jesse and we learned that Mont Blanc is a mountain in France. – Devyn









The P4’s have been going swimming for 3 weeks at DG1. We got split into groups at first. My group learned front crawl and back crawl. We learned how to do the right techniques. We also did mushroom float, pencil float and starfish float. I think I have improved over the time. On the last day we had a fun day where we got to play with all the floats and toys in the pool. We made a pyramid with cups and buckets! – Devyn
23.9.24-27.9.24 – This week’s blog is by Jesse and Alexander!

This year we are starting a new award called the School Values Award. Each week we will focus on one of our different values, then everyone will vote who they think it is. This week was honesty and Rosie won it! – Jesse

We were practising our different passes. We did chest pass, over head throw and bounce pass. We were doing this to practise our basketball. – Alexander





We have started making webs out of string and a paper plate. We have yet to add the weaving. – Jesse
My web is orange and red. – Alexander


I have been going to an art class and this week I made a pumpkin and a snail. The snail has a conker for the shell to keep spiders away from your house. I made the pumpkin out of a swimming pool noodle, we then knitted around it and put a stick in the middle with a ribbon. – Millie



We matched the number to the word. We did zero to twenty. We worked well as a team. – Alexander
We were making music by drawing symbols and then we copied them by playing it. I was using Ella’s guitar! – Jesse
In my group we used a drum, a ukulele and a glockenspiel. – Alexander

We have finished our Charlotte’s Web display in the classroom. Everybody is very pleased with it! – Millie

In lunchtime club this week we did some basketball. We practised the different passes. – Millie

I made the different sounds out of Play-doh. – Rosie
The P5-7’s had an ICT teacher come in from CDHS. We used Spike which is Lego but you can control your design by electronics. We made a ticket scanner that when you scanned a coloured ticket it would light up that colour. I enjoyed doing it step by step as that makes it a lot more simple for everybody. – Millie







On the Tuesday another teacher from CDHS came in for art. We used Wilbur the Pig to make different patterns in the spiders web but we could only do it in black and white. It was very fun! – Millie









It was a hot day so we listened to Charlotte’s Web outside! – Millie
I was lying down on a pillow. – Rosie
We had a debate about who the main character is in Charlotte’s Web. Our options were Wilbur, Charlotte and Fern. We worked in groups and came up with ideas, my group had Wilbur. – Millie
We then went outside and had a debate. My group had Charlotte and we won! – Rosie





We listened to a chapter of the book at the woods and went on a hunt for goose eggs. There were surprises in them and one of them was a rotten egg! The rest of them were egg shakers. We had a lot of fun looking for them. – Millie











We then made pictures of spiders out of sticks and stuff we found in the woods. I love going to the woods. – Rosie









9.9.24-13.9.24 – This week’s blog is by Lola and Ruairi!

We were playing a matching game in maths. We had to match up the picture with the correct number! – Ruairi
We have started a lunchtime club. This week we were focusing on football. We played a football match. – Lola
We practised passing to each other in groups, my group was me, Kobi and Zamari. I loved it! – Ruairi









Asa and Devyn got their awards for the ‘Shawhead Show’ over the summer that they won! I think it’s very impressive! – Lola


We were making sloppy slop for Wilbur! Everyone got to try it and I loved it! – Lola
We put in apple peel, corn flakes, pop tarts, weetabix and warm milk. We then mixed it all, I kind of liked it. – Ruairi














We went to the woods and brought our Wilbur the pigs we made. We made houses, hiding spots and also did some digging for him as that’s what he likes to do. I had to do some pick axing to make a big hole. – Ruairi
He also likes to ride in a pram so we put Wilbur in a real pram that some of the pre-schoolers came in. He also likes to go on a swing and to follow Fern the little girl around. Both Ruairi and I like going to the woods! – Lola
We also searched around for spider webs!





















We have been practising singing ‘Flying High, Flying Free’ as a whole school with Mrs Bielinski on her guitar! – Lola


With our topic Forces, we were making gliders out of paper which spun around very fast! We also checked whose would land first. I loved doing it! – Lola








We also made Play-doh monsters in groups and in my group there was Jesse and Zamari. We had to push, pull and twist them to make them. My one was like a snake with a hat. – Ruairi


It was Bobby’s birthday and he brought in cupcakes, they were very yummy! – Ruairi
2.9.24-6.9.24 – This week’s blog is by Jackson and Kobi!
We were working on Mr T’s building challenge where we had to build something on our own and Mr T had to pick the winner. Jesse and Devyn won! – Jackson
They all did very well! – Kobi






We made Charlotte’s Web freeze frames for drama/topic. We had to be silent and freeze after our performance. My group’s one was when Charlotte captured the fly. – Jackson
In my group, Ella was Wilbur and she was looking for Charlotte the spider. I was the big old sheep. – Kobi
We watched the ‘Annie’ trailer and in it she made someone some food, so we had to draw a plate of food of whatever you would want to make. I made pizza with chocolate stuffed crust, with a pancake on top, with smarties and chocolate ice cream on the pancake. – Jackson
I made a chocolate steak, a smarties egg, chocolate ice cream on the egg and chocolate pasta. I think it looks very nice and would taste good. – Kobi


We were building and drawing millionaire mansions of what we would like to live in. In mine I had a slide, and if Asa insulted me he would get teleported and go down it. We also had a limo that had it’s own driver. – Jackson
In my mansion there was a rock climbing wall and there was a river in my back garden. We also had a helicopter for the mansion. – Kobi







We were playing hockey and everyone did well. We were practising passing the ball to each other. I scored 5 goals in the game! – Kobi
I really enjoyed the hockey and I was good at it. – Jackson












In our topic forces, we were building ramps and launching vehicles off of them to see how far they would go as a science experiment. We changed the size of our ramp each time as we could only change one thing. Here are some of our efforts. – Jackson

We’re back on the blog and I am very excited to now be in P5! I hope you enjoy this term’s blog! – Asa

Before the holidays we did some handwriting and some pictures for the Shawhead Show! We got our hard work back and found out what places we came! I came 1st with handwriting and I was very surprised! – Asa
I came second for my picture! – Zamari

During the holidays I competed in a few horse shows. I got 3 champions at the Dumfries Show and a 6th place at Blair Castle! I am proud of myself! – Bessie
I got some certificates at gymnastics! I got them for a hand stand, a backwards roll and a cartwheel! – Zara

In maths I have been learning about different charts. We went around and asked everyone what their favourite colours were and then made a graph from the answers. – Zamari




Our new book we’re reading in class is ‘Charlotte’s Web’. We made little dens for Wilbur the pig. When tidying it up we found a little mouse in the den. – Asa
We used our apple trees because the book said he lives under an apple tree. – Zamari

We were painting all of the characters we have seen in Charlotte’s Web so far, to make a display for our classroom. – Asa

Our new topic is Forces. Our force was friction so we were testing what surface would make our car go the fastest. – Asa
You had to build a ramp and put the car down it. My car went very fast, Ruairi’s won! – Zamari







We had an afternoon of playing games and learning what respect means. We also played a French game called Escargot outside which was fun! Alexander was amazing at it! – Asa
My favourite game we played was ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. – Zamari
